The StartmeupHK Venture Forum is the flagship conference that kicks off the StartmeupHK Festival. It offers a unique opportunity to hear from and interact with globally acclaimed entrepreneurs, industry leaders and policy makers, through a series of keynote speeches, fireside chats and panel discussions. The focus will be on understanding emerging technologies, and the opportunities and challenges they present for the future.

Chris Au Young leads a number of innovative developments to transform the Hong Kong International Airport into an airport of the future.  He actively engaged airlines, ACI, IATA, technology leaders, universities and research institutions to shape the future travel experience and drive for operational excellence.

Chris has extensive experience in airport management including airfield, baggage, terminal systems, airport flow and runway capacity, and has been with the Airport Authority since 2006.  Prior to that, he was Regional Project Manager of North East Asia at TNT Express.  He also spent 10 years at Accenture, the world leading management and IT consultancy firm, and delivered a number of business transformational projects for Fortune 500 companies.

Chris is a Board Member of the Zhuhai Airport Management Company, representative of HKIA in the ACI World Airport IT Standing Committee, a member of the Expert Review Panel in the Hong Kong R&D Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling Technologies (LSCM), and a member of the HKIE in Logistics & Transportation Discipline.  He holds an MBA and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering.

Focused on healthy aging tech and blockchain, Bonnie leads 500 Startups’ operations from Hong Kong. 500 Startups is one of the most active seed investors globally with over 1800 portfolio companies. Formerly head of strategic planning for the Zuellig Group, holding company of Zuellig Pharma and EBOS (NZE:EBO) for 7 years, Bonnie is passionate about finding disruptive technology companies that can change traditional business models. Bonnie is an enterprise software veteran, and prior to joining the healthcare industry, she worked with IBM, AT&T, HP, Deloitte etc. She is a CFA and holds a B.A. with a double major in Engineering & Economics from Dartmouth College.

Arthur Chow is the co-founder and CEO of 6waves, a leading global publisher of Mobile and Facebook social games. Founded in 2008, 6waves has now expanded to 120 employees with presence in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, San Francisco, Taipei and Beijing.  Some of the company’s recent hit games include Age of Three Kingdoms, which was featured by AppStore and Google in Japan and Hong Kong and occupying the top grossing chart.

6waves investors include Nexon from Korea and Insight Venture Partners from US.  In leading 6waves to such remarkable achievements, Arthur was awarded with the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2012 and featured by HSBC Commercial Banking advertising campaign as one of the business leaders in Hong Kong.

He is a regular speaker and has spoken at GDC, G-Star, RISE, Game Connection, Casual Connect, Nordicgames and ChinaJoy.

Dr. Fitzgerald is Professor at MIT and an owner / participant in startups. He is a leader in innovation and innovation processes, with an emphasis on new materials / devices, nanotechnology, energy, and water purification. In addition to his academic position, he is Co-Founder of 4Power, President of Paradigm Research, part of the founding team of The Water Initiative and lead for the Low Energy Electronic Systems Interdisciplinary Research Group at MIT’s research center in Singapore. He holds a number of patents, and hasauthored and co-authored over 150 technical papers.
Dr. Fitzgerald holds a PhD from Cornell University and an SB in Material Science and Engineering from MIT.

Melissa Gecolea has worked as a broadcast journalist in the Philippines, Hong Kong and London, covering politics, technology, and business. She is currently the Supervising Producer and anchor for the weekly business show ‘Money Magazine’ on TVB Pearl.
Prior to joining TVB, she was a producer at the Philippines’ top network ABS-CBN and producer and host for various award-winning shows in London and Hong Kong.
Melissa holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on news editorial, radio and television from Radford University.

James is the founder and CEO of Oddup, a Hong Kong based company that provides a data-driven startup rating system. He is also Founding Partner at Bigcolors, a venture capital firm that invests in early stage startups. Prior to joining the startup world, James worked in banking for Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, and in consulting for Capgemini and Deloitte. He holds bachelor’s degrees in commerce and law from La Trobe University.

Kathy is a co-founder of WafaGames, which creates extraordinary gaming experiences using breakthrough technology. Kathy is a serial entrepreneur, and prior to WafaGames, she founded ai.Law, Seeway Investment and KG Inc and was a Foundation Board member of Global Shapers Community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum. Kathy was named one of MIT’s 35 Innovators under 35 in 2017, and is also a chess master and former national chess champion in China. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics & East Asia Studies from Columbia University.

Steve is CEO of Mission Control Digital, a Predictive Data Analytics software platform that develops and operates world-class digital content, while partnering with large scale web and social media companies. Prior to MCD, Steve spent nine years at Tencent playing a pioneering role in building the Tencent Interactive Entertainment Group’s products and platform. All together, he has over 20 years experience in the digital entertainment industry, working for iconic companies including Electronic Arts (producing award winning Lord of the Ring titles amongst many others), as well as key roles at THQ, Square and Digital Domain. Graduating from high school at the age of 16, Steve received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

As Chief Catalyst, Richard builds a culture of innovation for the Fung Group, and cultivates the capabilities of their people by engaging the businesses to create new value. Prior to this, he was Managing Director of IDEO Asia Pacific based in Shanghai, having moved from IDEO London where he was responsible for the service practice. Before joining IDEO, he was at Levi Strauss & Company, and also ran his own consulting business for some years. Richard holds a Master of Science degree in Design Ergonomics from UCL (University College London).

Reeve Kwan is the Co-Founder and Operations Director of GoGoVan. In this role, Reeve leads the company’s global business development, operations and sales strategy, with a focus in customer relations. In just a short period, Reeve has successfully expanded the business of GoGoVan into 5 regions outside Hong Kong, transforming the company into a regional delivery enterprise.

Reeve is also in charge of GoGoVan’s cross-region internal communication management, where he is responsible for developing regional staff training programs.

Reeve graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2010 and was selected as one of the “30 Under 30 Asia: Manufacturing & Energy” by Forbes Magazine.

Judith J. Li is a Partner at Lilly Asia Ventures (LAV), based in Hong Kong / Shanghai and focused on early and growth stage investments across biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, and diagnostics both domestically and cross-border. Judith holds board appointments at a variety of LAV’s portfolio companies, including Crown Biosciences (6554:TT), Just Biotherapeutics, Veritas Genetics, andNextcure. Her prior experience includes McKinsey’s NewYork office, hospital administration at Partners Healthcare, and co-founding an interventional nephrology medical device venture. Judith holds a B.A. in Neurobiology from Harvard, and an MBA from Harvard Business School, and currently resides in Hong Kong, splitting her time between Hong Kong, Shanghai, and the Bay Area.

Michael is Partner at Golden Gate Ventures, who focus their investments on seed investments and Series A (growth financing) in South East Asia. Before joining Golden Gate Ventures, he founded his own venture fund focused on Dutch SMEs. Early in his career he started an IT system maintenance company. Michael has had various positions on a societal and administrative level as a result of which he has been able to build an extensive international network. Michael is a former vice chairman of the Economic Development Board Rotterdam and studied Financial Analysis for Business Valuation, and Private Equity and Venture Capital at Harvard Business School.

Winners of numerous startup and fintech awards and accolades since their launch in 2013, Welab’s Series B fundraising of US$ 160 million is among the highest in its category. Prior to launching Welab, Simon spent 15 years in commercial banking, in a variety of functional areas across geographies. He holds an MSM degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Sydney.

Sally leads the delivery of the HSH group’s digital transformation initiative and devised and championed Kaleidoscope, the Peninsula Labs startup project, which will be launched at the StartmeupHK Festival 2018. Prior to this, she was the founder of a luxury hotel consulting firm where she led affiliate and partnership marketing, as well as digital marketing and CRM initiatives for numerous luxury hotel group clients. Sally was also a pioneer during the online travel agency era, having launched a website that was subsequently acquired by Expedia for US$756million in 2014. Sally is a speaker and lecturer, and has won various awards recognizing her digital expertise in the travel industry.

Vasco is a co-founder and CEO at Unbabel, the AI powered human translation platform. Companies he has co-founded prior to Unbabel include Dezine.com and Bueda. Besides being an entrepreneur, he has also worked as mentor to startups, and as a researcher. Vasco has a PhD in Language Technologies from Carnegie Mellon University.

Yat Siu is the founder and CEO of Outblaze, a company specializing in gaming, cloud technology, and smartphone/tablet software development. A serial entrepreneur, Yat is also a founder and board director of mobile games publisher Animoca, the Fonero leader for Asia and head of FON in Hong Kong, and a board director for TurnOut Ventures, a joint venture between Turner Entertainment and Outblaze Investments. He has been named Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum, and Young Global Leader, and won numerous awards for his contribution to business and society.

As Managing Director of Accelerate at Brinc, Hilary leads the platform’s knowledge initiatives, investments and portfolio development. With extensive experience working with founders across three continents to learn, fundraise and grow with Seedcamp, Swire Properties’ blueprint, and now Brinc, she leads efforts to source the best founders to join Brinc and key partners for them to continue to thrive.

Prior to Brinc, Hilary was Head of blueprint, a Swire tech accelerator and co-working space where she focused on running the accelerator program and looking after all things startups, mentors and investors. Prior to joining blueprint, she worked in London as Investment Manager at Seedcamp, a leading pre-seed and seed stage fund, where she managed the deal processes for fund’s portfolio companies. She also ran Seedcamp’s internal learning program, helping portfolio companies attain their growth and funding goals, and looked after Seedsummit, the initiative to provide open source legal documents to the greater European startup community.

Originally from the US, Hilary moved to London after earning her BA from Yale University to join a general practice, multi-jurisdictional law firm where she was COO. During her five year tenure, she led the firm to achieve a ranking among the top 2.5% of all British law firms in practice management by the Law Society of England and Wales’ Lexcel program.

Jonathan is co-founder of Binary Capital, the San Francisco based early stage venture capital firm. Previously, Jonathan was Managing Director at General Catalyst and a Principal at Benchmark, where he sourced and led investments in Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and Chloe and Isabel. In 2016, Forbes Magazine named Jonathan to its prestigious Midas Brink List. He holds a master’s degree in management science and engineering from Stanford.

Co-Founder, SenseTime

Bing is the co-founder of SenseTime, currently the largest AI unicorn in Asia in terms of revenue, valuation, and fund raising volume. He is a PhD candidate in CUHK, specializing in deep learning and computer vision. His research team is widely considered to be the earliest group of Chinese AI scientists to engage in deep-learning R&D globally.

In 2014, Bing co-founded SenseTime, an AI company that specializes in deep learning platform, and develops algorithms such as facial recognition, image recognition, video analysis, autonomous driving, and medical image analysis etc.
