Online: Sustaining Mental Health in Difficult Times

27/10/2020 5:30pm - 6:30pm

About this Event

Without a single doubt, the global epidemic has taken a toll on our lives one way or more. This discussion looks at steps you can take to prevent this stressful time from derailing yours and your families mental health.

The coronavirus outbreak, and the social-distancing measures now in place to prevent its spread, have turned all our lives upside down. Fear and anxiety about a new disease and what could happen can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Public health actions, such as social distancing, can make people feel isolated and lonely and can increase stress and anxiety.

Home schooling is forced on kids and parents, while teachers try to engage online learning. Jobs have been lost, salaries cut, business are closing and life as we know it is rapidly changing. Stressful situations have been forced entire communities. How you respond to stress during the coronavirus can depend on your background, your social support from family or friends, your financial situation, your health and emotional background, the community you live in, and many other factors.

Mental health and psychosocial wellbeing were defined as an integral part of health by the WHO. Coping with stress in a healthy way will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger.
