The Future of Jobs – Part 2: Active Learning and Learning Strategies

04/11/2021 6:00pm - 7:30pm

One of the biggest talent magnets in the future of work is likely to be learning. Firstly, because talent will only choose to join organisations providing broad, wide and deep learning opportunities. Secondly, because organisational learning predicts organisational performance. And thirdly because generating and applying new insights faster than your competition is going to be the central competitive advantage of the future.

There’s a problem, however. The learning and development industry is in a pretty terrible state.

Dr. Robert Brinkerhoff, an internationally recognized learning effectiveness expert, published a study in his book Telling Training’s Story that shows 15 percent of people don’t try a new concept after they learn it, and 70 percent try but fail or give up. Just 15 percent of leaders who get training are actually able to establish permanent change after traditional learning experiences. Other experts report only 10 percent of such corporate training is effective.

Join us to discuss the WEF’s Future of Jobs’ skill set of active learning and learning strategies. Will we examine learning strategies that:

  • Help participants learn more
  • Help participants engage actively with content
  • Improve the thinking process – i.e. helps people become better at solving complex problems
  • Generate a growth mindset – i.e. participants begin to believe they can solve increasingly complex challenges
  • Can make people more intelligent (at IQ and at complexity of thinking developmental levels)
  • Consistently surprise teachers into discovering how capable their students actually are
  • Improve memory storage and retrieval
  • Generate creative and innovative ideas
  • Bond people together
  • Enable performance under pressure

EQ Lab’s Future of Jobs series will help anybody involved in the hiring and development of talent to know exactly what they should be looking for. In this second session, we will be exploring and breaking down Active Learning and Learning Strategies.
